Safe Practice & Handling
Safe Practice and Handling
· Pallets should be stored on firm level ground.
· Never stack pallets on top of each other.
· Lifting components directly with chains or slings is dangerous and can lead to damage of the units.
· When removing polythene shrink-wrapping, do not burst open or tear off as this may damage edges and corners of components. Carefully cut open polythene using a sharp knife, taking care not to damage units within.
· Never drag or slide units across each other.
· Components should be handled and stored in the plane to which they are designed to be installed.
Efflorescence
Efflorescence or “lime bloom” is a temporary, naturally occurring phenomenon that can affect cast stone as well as other cement-based products. A lightening of the surface may occur which may be more prevalent in damp conditions. Efflorescence in no way effects the structural integrity of the cast stone and in most cases will disappear in time with normal weathering.
Planters
Please note that all planters are made with drainage holes. Therefore care should be taken when used indoors, for example using a plastic liner.
Planters and Pedestals
It is essential that all planters and pedestals are set on firm, level ground for both safety reasons and to reduce unnecessary strains which might encourage cracking. If needed due to site conditions, a 1 to 8 sand/cement bedding mortar should be used underneath the planter or the pedestal. This is to ensure that the load is spread evenly across the base of the unit to avoid any unnecessary twisting or pivoting strain.
Water Features
Please note that as with natural stone, simple precautions should be taken with cast stone to ensure your products are not affected by frost. Water should be drained off before winter months and not filled again until there is a minimal risk of frost.
Benches
For safety reasons please ensure that bench legs are set on firm even ground at an even distance spreading the load of the bench.
Jointing Mix
Can be used between joints to achieve a colour match.
Generally a 1:5 part mix, used with White Portland Cement.
General
Please refer to individual installation drawings for full fixing details.
